Whoever has come up with this idea has to be commended and supported. Oromos have to use any opportunity to bring to light the history, language and culture of the great Oromo nation that has been denied its rightful place in Ethiopia as well as in the world.

Whatever is transmitted using Afan Oromo on BBC, we have to see it as an opportunity for the Oromo language to be recognized as the third most widely spoken language in Africa with more than 50 million speakers in the Ethiopian cursed empire and in the neighbouring countries of Africa.

Let us support this noble idea and fill out the petition to show our power in numbers and quality.

    Good job, bravo !

Academicians, international Oromo support organizations, individual people, etc. have to build up a steady persuasive pressure on BBC..

The petition initiative calls for assiduous diplomatic efforts by Oromo academicians and international friends of Oromo people to persuade and convince the concerned media authorities about the validity of our arguments why Afaan Oromo program should go on air on BBC.

The managers of the corporation should be brought round, to take into consideration the simple fact that Afaan Oromo is also broadcasted by other international media like VOA.

    BBC Afaan Oromoo Program,
    why not?

  12. kifle udessa September 19, 2015 at 7:51 am #

BBC Afan Oromo should be opened.b/se Afaan Oromo is the 3rd largest language spoken in Africa.

The Oromo language Afaan Oromo the largest poking language in horn Africa and third poking language after Arabic and Swahili but unfortunately neglected and band language before 1991 About 50 million Afaan Oromo Speaker around the world they don’t have any sours of information biased on fact power full Media like BBC
Broadcast Therefore, we the undersigned, the Oromo Diaspora in the United Kingdom and the rest of the world, the Oromo people in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa, and friends of the Oromo People and Afaan Oromo speaking peoples across the world, call up on the BBC Shareholders, the BBC Trustees, the BBC Board of Directors, and the government of the United Kingdom to mandate the BBC to launch Afaan Oromo Radio Program as a matter of urgency and as top priority to meet the urgent need of providing trustworthy and credible information and news services that attends to the day-to-day living conditions of tens of millions of Afaan Oromo speakers.

  14. hawwinee barii September 19, 2015 at 5:47 pm #

Have investigated the ideological stand of the person running the petition? Have investigated the purpose this media can fulfill? Has VOA ever run any Oromo human right violation prorgame? In not VOA just American mouthpiece? What makes sense is not opening a radio but the purpose for which that radio is needed? If you tell me what ever the radio broadcast we have to have radio that runs in Afaan Oromoo, ever afaan Oromo radios have been there during derge and wayyaanee.

    • Wiirtuu October 13, 2015 at 6:08 pm #

      Hawwinee Barii,

You are right. These are the questions that we should ask before signing any petion simply it contains ‘Oromo’ or it is pretending to ‘promote’ Oromo issue/s.

If we see the personal back ground of the person (B/Meskel) who is behind this petition this petition doesn’t deserve Oromo support for the following reasons:

!. He himself can’t properly speak Oromo and he prefers Amharic than Afan Oromo in formal communications,
      2. He was Woyane’s Diplomatic mission member in New York (He was attaché),
      3. He still has strong ties with our enemy/Woyane and is working in weakening Oromo cause.
      4. He usually focuses on those Oromo issues or questions that he thinks will not collide him with his master, Woyane, and manipulate these issues systematically as if he comes up new solutions. Afan Oromo is the area he frequently focuses on. This athe area where he can play as Oromo support the question and Woyane also needs to make such issues a focal point of discussion instead of focusing on the land-grab/ Finfinnee Master Killer issue, Oromo national question and other basic human rights questions that Woyane is openly violating and killing our people.
      5. The broadcasting of BBC by Afan Oromo is not our main question, it neither solves Oromo’s national question it is simply a destruction of Oromo’s attention from the main issue, the quest for liberation.
      6. Had he had a true concern for Oromo problem and destruction of Oromo family and life, there are a lot of ways to take Oromo’s issue to international forum. As a lawyer, he could make petition to make Woyane’/OPDO officials accountable for the genocide they have been committing on Oromo and other peoples in Ethiopia.!

I love the national vigilance of Hawwinee Bariii. If we have only 1000 of her, we can even be the rulers of the world live alone Oromia (for the sake of argument only but not ever the intention of Oromians). All dogs do not bark for reason. We have to differentiate between genuine Oromian action and margarine Oromian action (you put margarine to eat the bread, the purpose of putting the margarine on your bread is to eat the bread but not the margarine). Some intentions by the name of Oromoo is to hoodwink Oromians and achieve their hidden agenda covering it or packaging it in Oromoo name. Mallas Zanawi the cannibal once wrote how his cadres should confuse the Oromo people and weaken the OLF by doing all what OLF does except the right to independence and protection of the resources of Oromian for exclusive use by Oromians.Look at all that are done in the name of Oromoo. Be it OMN (that collects money from Oromian only to run same Oromoo love songs five days a week, repeat the same programe 6 days a week), the VOA( that only aims at disseminating Americas imperialist policy), radio and TV programes run by cannibal colonial Ethiopian empire. That runs the programe of two digit economic development of Tigreans economy today and runs how hunger is killing the Oromo people the the next day. These all medias are running a drama in the name of Oromo to achieve their selfish imperialist, colonial and sectarian interest. As VOA is running Americas propaganda in support of Ethiopian colonial rule and exploitation in Oromia, BBC has been doing the same and its propaganda in support of Ethiopian colonial rule and exploitation of Oromians will become more dangerous if it expand it into afaan Oromoo. I think the person who is running the petition wants to secure employment at BBC after his retirement. The only genuine radio that Oromians should hugely invest on Sagalee Biisummaa Oromoo (SBO). Others are just for expanding propaganda and employment opportunity in the name of Oromoo.

If I have stepped on somebody’s toe by my argument in support of national vigilance, I want to extend my apology.

    • sabonamaca December 12, 2015 at 2:04 pm #

      From Sabona
I haven’t participated so far in writing on any media but wanted to write to give response to hawani and waaqoo.I think you are part and parcels of wayane.you are objecting people and medias who have shown us the world i can say.Who have brought the oromo people from dark. You have to ask excuse the medias for slip of your tongue.Always don’t start by negative feed backs. We have seen the result of these medias on struggling devil wayane regime.Have you heard the oromiya national resistance on agenda of wayane genocide. Please be optimistic rather than pessimistic on every corner of your talk.Actually the world is full of every extremes of people. You should have supportive ideas for these medias because they have contributed a lot for freedom and rights of our people.Had it not been for them many people of oromiya the name oromiya wouldn’t have been in existence.Think in the way that if there is no strugle, the way the wayanes act was like a night hyena who has got dead donkey. Any ways
      Thank you.

  17. Alamaayyoo Irkoo September 20, 2015 at 12:17 pm #

I concur with the argument of Hawwinee and Waaqoo.

It is obvious that the devil can sometimes behave like God and even uses God’s words to cheat God’s people. From our national experience we have been cheated thousands times because we believe in whatever that uses Oromo as its prefix. This is why Ethiopia uses Oromo as a prefix to advance its satanic Ethiopian project on Oromoo. As has become a common practice by Ethiopians to use Oromo, to advance their interest today because they know they can not achieve their selfish satanic objective by using the name Ethiopia amongst Oromians.

Oromo people are a Great nation and people who speak Afan Oromo accounts half of the Ethiopian Empire. Afan oromo is still the Fourth largest and popular language in African Continent. so I always prey This language really Deserves to be broadcasted With most Reliable Source of News BBC. Oromo people were Oppressed People by Ethiopian Leaders, and did not get any reliable and independent media. so it is a great blessing broad casting BBC news with Afan Oromo language. Oromo people and ethiopian people were tired of Regime Lies and propaganda. So let the truth and democracy reach This people through Afan Oromo. God Bless Oromo people.

However some attempts are taken to illuminate Afan Oromo from the ground, it’s failed due to high resistance of Oromo nationalists that pay ultimate price for their language and nation at large. This is good news to transform Oromo language one step forward if BBC starts it’s broadcast in East Africa.Let the God with great nation Oromo.

For those of us who were educated under the Derge and Hailesillasie, the status of our language at present is just a dream. Imagine what comes over you when you open a book in a library and see a map that shows Afaan Oromo (Jaari akaasii yuu hiingaanee Afaan kanaani ….) squeezed from all direction by an inward arrow, and labeled as a dying language.

We have not get here by charity or good will of others. It is sacrifices paid, the struggle made and determination of our people resulted in what we have and where we are.
Definitely our language is not dying it is flourishing !Death to those who wished for its death!

Yes I totally agree with many, if BBC aired Affan Oromo, that is another leap forward for our language and it can create another venue of struggle for our people.

Karan is in geetaan waaqaayoo ha geedhuu.
